LEV Testing (TExT)
Ensuring systems prevent hazards from entering the worker's breathing zone.
NOHH Ltd carries out LEV Thorough Examination and Test (TExT) in line with statutory requirements and HSE guidance. All work is delivered by qualified occupational hygienists and P601-certified LEV engineers.
Why Carry Out LEV Testing?
Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) is one of the most effective ways to control airborne contaminants such as dusts, fumes, vapours, and mists. Under the COSHH Regulations, all LEV systems must be thoroughly examined and tested at regular intervals to ensure they are working as designed and continue to protect workers’ health.
The law requires a Thorough Examination and Test (TExT) of LEV systems, with clear requirements on methods, intervals, and record keeping set out in COSHH Reg 9(2) and supporting HSE guidance (HSG258).
Our Experience
NOHH Ltd has extensive experience testing and assessing a wide range of LEV systems for over 30 years, including:
Portable fume extractors
On-tool or on-torch extraction
Spray booths
Multi-branch systems
Blasting halls
Painting halls
Fume cupboards
Push-pull extraction systems
CNCs and enclosures
Whatever the size or complexity, we reassure systems are compliant and effective in controlling hazardous substances. If not, we recommend remedial actions to ensure control is achieved.
What the Examination Involves
Our LEV testing includes:
Documenting the system and its components (fans, filters, ductwork, hoods/intakes)
A thorough visual inspection of the system
Comparing current performance with original design specifications (where available)
Measuring parameters such as duct velocities, face velocities, capture velocities, static pressures, and clearance times
Supporting qualitative tests such as smoke visualisation and dust lamps to check capture efficiency
Results are benchmarked against HSE guidance and exposure data to determine whether the system is providing adequate protection.
Reporting and Compliance
Following each examination, NOHH Ltd provides a clear, comprehensive report that:
Documents the system and test results
Identifies any deficiencies
Recommends remedial actions to restore compliance
Meets all COSHH reporting and record-keeping requirements
Most LEV systems must be tested at least every 14 months, though some processes require more frequent testing. We also provide a reminder service to help you maintain valid assessments at all times.
Our LEV Testing Coverage
We provide LEV testing services across the North of England and the Scottish Borders, supporting sites in a range of industrial and technical environments.
Our work is regularly carried out across North East England, Teesside, Leeds and West Yorkshire, Hull and the Humber region, Cumbria, and the Scottish Borders. Each area is supported directly, with work arranged to suit site location and operational requirements. If you're unsure whether we cover your area, feel free to get in touch.
Protecting Your Workforce
Regular LEV testing helps ensure systems continue to provide effective control and remain compliant with relevant requirements. If you have an upcoming test or would like us to take a look at an existing system, feel free to get in touch.
